Mental Strategies, Visual Imagery and EFT

Emotional states don’t just happen. There is a process to it. For example a person may visualise being alone in their house and then feel isolated and alone.

The two stages that I have highlighted in the example are:

1. Visual image of being alone
2. Feeling state of isolation and being alone

So how can we use this piece of information with EFT? Well we can use the image to tune a person into the issue and we can tap whilst the person is looking at the image. In fact more precisely we can get the person to look up with their eyes and access their image and whilst they are looking up with their eyes get them to tap. Why might we want to do this? Because it can be a lot more gentle tuning in via the image. Also it short circuits their strategy for creating the emotion.

I recently used this approach with a person. At the onset of the process the person was on the verge of huge emotion, the moment I noticed their eyes viewing an internal picture and took them into visual by getting them to hold their eyes up and to my right (as I looked at them), they calmed immediately and watched as the image disintegrated. We used the words just to describe the picture. It was very fast and very gentle.
