Step 1: Identify a problem you have that you would like to overcome.

Typical examples might be:

  • Nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach
  • Gripping headache

Step 2: On a scale from 0-10 rate the current intensity of your problem. Zero indicates no intensity and 10 the maximum intensity you have ever experienced.

Step 3: Develop a Set Up Statement using the following format:

“Even though I have (this problem), I completely and totally accept myself”.

Use the words from step 1 that describe your problem and place them in the statement above in place of the words in italics.

Example:

“Even though I have a nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach, I completely and totally accept myself”

Step 4: Using the finger tips, tap the Karate Chop Point whilst speaking out loud the statement you developed in step 3. Repeat three times using gentle percussion.

Using the words that describe your problem (step 1), tap with gentle percussion on each point in the diagram as follows:

  • Crown of the Head: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Inner Eye: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Side of the Eye: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Under the Eye: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Under the Nose: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Chin: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Collar Bone: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”
  • Under the Arm: “nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach”

Step 5: Re-evaluate the intensity of your problem. Repeat steps 3-5 using a modified statement to represent your problem. The modified statement should be as follows:

“Even though I still have (this problem) I completely and totally accept myself”.

Continue until the intensity is zero.
